The Seminole County Sheriff’s Office is accepting applications for the position of DEPUTY SHERIFF. The position of Deputy Sheriff performs law enforcement and public safety work in the protection of life and property, and the execution of orders issued through the jurisdiction of the Sheriff. The annual salary for this position is $36,089 to $43,306, depending upon prior law enforcement experience. Additionally, approximately $1,500 is added to the base salary as compensation for working on holidays. The Sheriff’s Office offers a competitive benefit package including paid retirement, paid health insurance, and personal time off.

Candidates will not be considered for employment or appointment if they have any visible body ornamentation including tattoos, brands, intentional body/tongue piercing or mutilation and dental ornamentation. This does not include normal piercing of the earlobe for earrings. Visible is defined as body ornamentation that is visible on the arm below the sleeve of a short sleeve or golf-style shirt or above the collar of a short sleeve or golf-style shirt. The only exception to this policy is a “Medical Alert” tattoo.

Drug testing is required for this position. All applicants must complete a drug use questionnaire when applying for a position. This questionnaire is part of the application process and must be completed before the application will be reviewed. Failure to submit this form will result in disqualification of your application. Applicants who are found, through investigation or personal admission, to have experimented with or used narcotics or dangerous drugs, except those medically prescribed, will not be considered for employment with the Seminole County Sheriff's Office. Exceptions to this policy may be made for applicants who admit to limited youthful and experimental use of marijuana, although any use of marijuana within the three years immediately preceding the date of your employment application will disqualify your application. Such applicants may be considered for employment if there is no evidence of regular, confirmed usage, and the full-field background investigation and results of the other steps in the process are otherwise favorable. Compliance with this policy is an essential requirement of the position.

Each applicant must have a licensed physician sign the Physician’s Clearance to Test Form included with this package. Failure to have this document completed and submitted with your application may disqualify your application. Any costs associated with the completion of this form are the responsibility of the applicant. All applicants will be required to take a Physical Abilities Test (P.A.T.), Civil Service written examination, and an oral interview; and applicants will be notified by letter regarding the date and time. Applicants must score at least 70% in each of the four (4) sections (math, reading comprehension, grammar, and report writing) of this nationally validated test. Applicants who do not pass may reapply in six (6) months. Successful applicants will be required to submit to a thorough background investigation, which includes, but it not limited to, past employment/education verification, driver’s license review, credit history, prior drug use history, arrest/conviction record, and computerized voice stress analysis (CVSA). A certified examiner administers the CVSA with questions addressing illegal drug use and general questions of honesty and criminal history. The testing and background investigation process may take 3-6 months depending upon the complexity of the applicant’s background. Applicants who successfully complete all phases of this process will be placed on an eligibility list from which the Sheriff may hire for an entire year. Your placement on the eligibility list does not obligate the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office to make an offer of employment. Applicants selected for employment will be required to submit to a conditional offer medical examination with drug screening and psychological evaluation.
