JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
DEPUTY SHERIFF TRAINEE
The Seminole County Sheriff's Office is accepting applications for the position of DEPUTY SHERIFF TRAINEE. For this position, the Sheriff's Office will send selected applicants to a law enforcement academy to become certified as a Law Enforcement Officer in the State of Florida. For the academy, physical assessment and conditioning are required in order to conduct the State mandated defensive tactics training, which includes hand-to-hand combat, wrestling, firearms retention and other techniques. Examples of activity include 3-5 mile runs, numerous sets of push-ups and sit-ups, aerobic type exercises, grappling type maneuvers including wrestling/take-downs, and normal joint range of motion including wrist, shoulder and back. Starting salary is $22,360 with an increase to $35,015 upon completion of academy and passing the State Certification Examination. THIS POSITION IS OPEN UNTIL FILLED.

- Applicant must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License and have a good driving record
- Applicant may not have been convicted of any felony or a misdemeanor involving perjury
- Applicant must have taken the CJBAT test (given at local Com munity Colleges)

Drug testing is required for this position. All applicants must complete a drug use questionnaire when applying for a position. This questionnaire is part of the application process and must be completed before the application will be reviewed. Failure to submit this form will result in disqualification of your application. Applicants who are found, through investigation or personal admission, to have experimented with or used narcotics or dangerous drugs, except those medically prescribed, will not be considered for employment with the Seminole County Sheriff's Office. Exceptions to this policy may be made for applicants who admit to limited youthful and experimental use of marijuana, although any use of marijuana within the three years immediately preceding the date of your employment application will disqualify your application. Such applicants may be considered for employment if there is no evidence of regular, confirmed usage, and the full-field background investigation and results of the other steps in the process are otherwise favorable. Compliance with this policy is an essential requirement of the position.
Each applicant must have a licensed physician sign the Physician's Clearance to Test Form included with this package. Failure to have this document completed and submitted with your application may disqualify your application. Any costs associated with the completion of this form are the responsibility of the applicant. All applicants will be required to take a Physical Abilities Test (P.A.T.), Civil Service written examination, and an oral interview; and applicants will be notified by letter regarding the date and time. Applicants must score at least 70% in each of the four (4) sections (math, reading comprehension, grammar, and report writing) of this nationally validated test. Applicants who do not pass may reapply in six (6) months. Successful applicants will be required to submit to a thorough background investigation, which includes, but it not limited to, past employment/education verification, driver's license review, credit history, prior drug use history, arrest/conviction record, and computerized voice stress analysis (CVSA). A certified examiner administers the CVSA with questions addressing illegal drug use and general questions of honesty and criminal history. Applicants selected for employment will be required to submit to a conditional offer medical examination with drug screening and psychological evaluation.
