INTERNSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT

Due to recent changes in the Forensics Services Laboratory and the forensics accreditation process, we cannot accept applications for Forensic Services Interns at this time.
Applicants must submit with their application, legible copies of the certifications and/or documents listed below. Failure to submit all of the items listed below may disqualify your application. Please note that the Sheriff's Office will not make copies of documents nor provide notary service for the background investigation waiver form.
- Valid Drivers license with a good driving history
- Social Security Card
- Notorized Background Investigation Waiver
- Applicant Drug Questionnaire Sheet
- A letter from the College or University authorizing participation in an internship program along with the allowable Semester Hours
- Will be interviewed by Section supervisor prior to acceptance of internship
Students are required to work for the agency where placed for the appropriate number of hours, corresponding with the credit hours for which the student is registered. As a guide the following sets forth the hours you are required to work:
| 3 Semester Hours - minimum of 10 hours per week/15 weeks. |   | Total required hours: 150 |
| 6 Semester Hours - minimum of 20 hours per week/15 weeks. |   | Total required hours: 300 |
| 9 Semester Hours - Minimum of 30 hours per week/15 weeks. |   | Total required hours: 450 |
The section supervisor will be asked to verify hours and to evaluate student performance during the period of the internship. Interns should meet with section supervisors at least three times during the term. At the beginning to clarify requirements, at midterm to submit timesheets, and at the end to submit final papers, journals and time logs.
Students are required to keep journals reflecting their activities for each week. They must be kept on a daily or weekly basis. The minimum entry is a weekly 2 paragraph entry describing the weekly activities, reflecting on thoughts, feelings or new experiences, and specifying hours spent working at the internship for the day or week.
A learning plan must be completed by the student in conjunction with the section supervisor
Each student intern is required to submit a paper outline critically analyzing his/her experiences. The paper should be written in a manner consistent with college level work, and should follow these guidelines:
| 3 hour internships: |   | 10 pages, typed, double spaced, standard font |
| 6 hour internships: |   | 18 pages, typed, double spaced, standard font |
| 9 hour internships: |   | 25 pages, typed, double spaced, standard font |
To successfully complete this course, the following is required:
- The paper must be submitted, on time, to specifications outlined in the syllabus.
- The journal must be completed and submitted on or before the due date.
- Students must adhere to the timetable, as set forth.
- Academic integrity must be maintained at all times
- Attendance at the service location is expected
- It is your responsibility to resolve scheduling conflicts and to meet the internship responsibilities
- Active participation at your work site is expected
All applicants must complete a drug use questionnaire when applying for a position. This questionnaire is part of the application process and must be completed before the application will be reviewed. Failure to submit this form will result in disqualification of your application. Applicants who are found, through investigation or personal admission, to have experimented with or used narcotics or dangerous drugs, except those medically prescribed, will not be considered for internship with the Seminole County Sheriff's Office. Exceptions to this policy may be made for applicants who admit to limited youthful and experimental use of marijuana, although any use of marijuana within the three years immediately preceding the date of your internship application will disqualify your application. Such applicants may be considered for internship if there is no evidence of regular, confirmed usage. Compliance with this policy is an essential requirement of the position.
