Above individuals were arrested in Toronto, Canada for burglarizing coin operated parking meters that were of the modern "burglar-proof" type that could not be pried open. This is the type of parking meter used throughout Canada and the United States. The meters were burglarized by drilling a hole in a prespecified location on the meter by using a template. Once drilled, a homemade tool was utilized to activate the lock release mechanism in the meter. The drill and the homemade tool were recovered; however, the template was not recovered.
Subjects came to Canada around May, 1999, and the first reported thefts of this type occurred a week after they arrived. Investigation revealed however that this same type of offense has occurred all over Europe and is currently widespread due to the ease of drilling and removing the money from these "burglar proof" coin operated parking meter devices.
As these individuals are from Europe, have traveled to Canada to commit their crimes, it is possible that they will travel throughout the United States.
They are currently out of custody after being arrested on May 27, 1999 by Toronto.
